The meeting will be held in Chester, Pennsylvania, which is an important
town for labor history; therefore we would like to have some

Call for Paper and Panel Proposals
78th Annual Conference

The Pennsylvania Historical Association invites proposals for individual
papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and special sessions to be given
at its 78th annual meeting at Widener University in Chester,
Pennsylvania on October 22-24, 2009. This meeting is open to scholars,
researchers, educators, public historians, and professionals who share
an interest in the history of Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic region
from the founding years to the present. The PHA welcomes proposals on a
wide range of themes and from numerous disciplines, including but not
limited to history, material culture, educational strategies and
theories, historic preservation, and museum studies. Full panel
proposals are encouraged.

The focus of the 2009 conference will be Mid-Atlantic Studies. While the
program committee will consider all proposals, it wishes to solicit
those that specifically address the myriad facets of the Mid-Atlantic
from early contact to the present day in areas such as geography,
politics, culture, education, economics, and public history. The
Mid-Atlantic includes all states bordering Pennsylvania as well as the
District of Columbia, greater Appalachia, and the Upper Ohio River
Valley. The committee welcomes panels from academics as well as
non-academics, e.g., professionals working in public schools, museums,
and historical agencies.

Although electronic submissions are preferred, those submitting
proposals through regular mail should send six copies of their proposal.
Proposals must include a title, description of paper or panel, brief CV
for all participants involved, and full contact information.

Proposals will be accepted until January 15, 2009. Participants will be
