Colleagues:
The term 'wagery', to mean the wages system, was current in the 1910s and 1920s, especially among socialists in the labor movement and liberal commentators on labor. But who invented it and where did it circulate? I would be grateful for the views of list members on these questions, and on the broader question of whether 'wagery' marked a particular focus on 'freedom' for workers, rather than distributional justice or social needs, among labor intellectuals.
Thanks,
Terry Irving
